Webster Street, Temescal
Design Challenge
This was, at its inception, an agricultural building tucked away in the Temescal District of Oakland. The area is now a solidly urban but the challenge with this particular home was that it shared a lot with several other homes and did not have direct street access.
Design Solution
In its most recent iteration it had been one of three residences on a single piece of property that had been used as a bit of a flop house. Along with Buchanan Opalach Architects, Scott Cameron and the Summerwood Company rearranged the homes on the lot, subdivided and renovated them. This lead to a property with unusual volumes and pleasing indoor outdoor vistas.
